When it is the end of strawberry season, it’s fun to make a large batch of ready-to-use strawberry compote, that you can use as a condiment on your desserts year-round. This goes well with cakes, cheesecakes, ice creams, pancakes, french toast, and waffles. You can also add this to your overnight oats and chia pudding or you can have it on toast by itself.

Description

This Strawberry compote recipe is a 3 ingredients, easiest compote recipe that you can get.

I have used fresh & juicy strawberries, sugar & vanilla extract. If you like it a little more sour, please add some lemon juice too.

If you like some spice, you can add cinnamon or ginger too.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. In a medium-size saucepan, add strawberries and sugar. Stir on medium heat.

  2. Stir the strawberries to coat them in sugar evenly and gently mash the strawberries with a potato masher.
If you like the compote slightly chunky, with pieces of strawberries in it, you can skip mashing and just stir gently.
  3. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook the berries for 10 minutes, stirring continuously, or until the compote is your desired thickness.
  4. Once the compote is of your desired consistency/thickness, let it cool down and then transfer to an airtight container.

Note

  • You can opt for either fresh or frozen strawberries (No need to thaw the frozen ones)
  • This strawberry compote can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.
  • Freezing the Compote: You can freeze this compote in an airtight container for 3 months and should thaw it before use.
  • While thickening the strawberry compote do keep in mind that it thickens a bit more once it cools down like any other compote.
