This is a detailed recipe of Mangode/ Moongode, Moon dal pakode. An easy pakoda recipe made with split green gram & vegetable of your choice. This is a fantastic teatime snack during winter & rainy seasons, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
During winter you can add any vegetable of your choice, spinach/ spring onion/ carrot, or broccoli.
In this recipe, I have used spring onions.
This is a protein rich dish and can also be served (in moderation) for breakfast or as a side dish.
I have deep fried the pakodas, you can easily air fry this at 180 deg for at least 10-12 mins.
There is no soda in the recipe.
Happy cooking!
Dry roast all the spices listed under the ingredients section as "Dry spices for the dal" in a small pan for 1 min.
Wash the dal thoroughly under water, till the water runs clean and then soak it in a large bowl for 3-4 hours.
Grind the dal to a coarse paste without adding water, in case you find it really hard to grind the dal, add max 2-3 table spoons of water.
Now to this dal except SALT add all the ingredients listed under - "Vegetables & herb for the dal (Onions, spring onion, coriander leaves, green chillies, amchur powder, hing, black pepper ).
Now add all the dried roasted ground spices to this dal mix and mix well.
Now add salt to this mix
Now once the oil is hot, put the heat to medium and put small ball sized pakodas in the oil.
Deep fry both sides to cook evenly on medium heat, if the heat is high , pakodas will remain raw from the inside.
If air frying, air fry for at least 10-12 min at 180 deg C
Drain on a blotting paper & serve with green chutney.
